LP Fleet Team: Sail for Gold

It’s been a busy few weeks for the LaserPerformance Fleet team in the UK. John and Joel have been travelling around the UK visiting sailing clubs, centres and schools delivering their customers with Lasers, Funboats and Bugs whilst trying to squeeze a bit of their own sailing in to any free time.

With the Olympics over, the LP Fleet Team have been heavily involved in the Royal Yachting Associations ‪#SAILFORGOLD campaign to support the British sailors competing in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Not only designed to support the Olympics, it’s primary role was to encourage as many new people to experience sailing for free.

“The #SAILFORGOLD at Cardiff Bay Yacht Club in south Wales was fantastic. Windy to begin with, the conditions calmed to perfect sailing conditions. With help from our Laser Bahia, we got over 160 people sailing on the water promoting the sport. Who knows, one of them could in the future be representing Great Britain in the Olympics.” – Joel, LP Fleet Team

Cardiff had great support, being the home club of Hannah Mills competing in the Olympic doublehander 470 event. Due to #SAILFORGOLD that evening with TV news crews at the ready, the little wind in Rio unfortunately postponed the racing to the next day.

As well as the success from Cardiff, John had chance to support the RYA at Trimpley Sailing Club (home club to Alison Young, GRB Laser Radial) where he exhibited her London 2012 Olympic Laser for all to see. On the last day of #SAILFORGOLD hosted by Rutland Sailing Club, over 200 people took to the water with an evening to follow where Britain’s Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark finally got their chance to sail for that gold medal. A good effort all round for the British Sailing Team!

In other news, the fleet team have been promoting one of their most popular deals to Laser sailors – the ‘Laser Fleet Deal’. The deal is a chance for club members who sail Lasers to get together and purchase on bulk to achieve a group discount on boats and spares. Last week, Laser fleet at Queen Mary Sailing Club in London Laser fleet took advantage with 17 sailors taking advantage of the great deal, including the brand new Ice Blue Laser!

Looking ahead, Joel will be supporting the Adidas Poole Week hosted by Parkstone Yacht Club (attending 24th & 25th August) where he’ll be showing off the new Ice Blue Laser and be there to answer any questions you may have, as well as watching the racing! There’s still time to sign up if you want to compete. Learn more here.
